About The Main Wayang Company

Formed in November 2004, The Main Wayang Company quickly spun full speed and kicked off our first maiden production of ‘Bibiks In Parliament’ collaborating with The Arts House’s 1st Anniversary at the Chamber in January 2005.

It was a very humble beginning, with lots of warm and positive support from the Peranakan community and new found supporters & ‘kawans of Main Wayang’. We knew we were on our journey to something good and meaningful.

OUR MISSION

To promote, share, revive, our Peranakan Baba Culture & Heritage to all, locally and globally, through our unique brand of shows, events, our music, song & dance, fashion and lifestyle activities, for all ages. Through various outreach programmes and youth related events, we get to engage & educate the younger generation.

Today, few are aware of our existence and not many truly appreciate our rich history, diverse legacy, the passionate and generous ways of our forefathers. The Main Wayang Company’s vision is to continue this entrepreneurial legacy and revive the vibrant & innovative spirit of our forefathers.

The Main Wayang Company will not only revive old traditions and customs, but will seek new modern ways and even cutting edge ideas to link and bring our Baba Culture into the new millennium.

Beyond our shores, we hope to show the world the colour, taste and splendour of our Peranakan culture that is unique to this part of the world. We invite you to  join us to be a part of our relentless but exciting journey to bring life back to the Peranakan culture either as a 'Kaki' or 'Kawan'.
