Baba Nyonya Newstalgia!, The Main Wayang Company’s 4th music CD offering, is an effort to marry familiar nostalgic tunes

with new original songs in different music styles which is designed to please the older audience yet attracting the younger audience

to get them intrigued and interested in discovering and learning about their unique heritage. We call it ‘Newstalgia!'

It also includes new songs that celebrate the Baba Nyonya culture of its language, food and nature of the Peranakans.

It also aims to question the more sophisticated listener to ponder, “What is Peranakan music?”, “Is there such a thing as Peranakan music?”

or is it simply the different genres of music that Babas & Nyonyas enjoy listening to, thus labelling these songs as “Peranakan music”

or more accurately songs that Peranakans enjoy listening to. Perhaps it is in the language used or perhaps this collection of songs

is the birth of a new genre of music which utilizes and fuses different styles of music arrangements

but all with a common theme of being Peranakan in feel and language. A fusion of languages and music styles

celebrating and reflecting what the Peranakan culture is all about.
